As the other industries utilizing social media to generate sales, cultivate company culture and boost reputation, fashion industry is gaining power from social media to raise popularity, launch new products and most importantly, to pass style around to dedicated fashion addicts.
Besides all those highly visited top fashion blogs by insiders, freelancers and brand promoters, celebrities are stepping up on to launch their own fashion blogs to share fashion tips and interact with fans. Olivia Palermo launches her fashion blog OliviaPalermo.com on October 11 in 2011. Her blog is jam-packed with pots about The City star’s fashion inspirations. There are fashion week snippets from behind-the-scenes at the shows and the front rows, styling tips-think how to wear leather shorts like Olivia-and more, all on her cute new website emblazoned with sketches of the star by Tibi’s Amy Smilovic.
Fashion blogs are a forum to express fashion inspirations from across the globe and to show that style is international. Not only bloggers benefit from this platform, but also the readers. Fashion addicts can gain insider tips to decide whether to jump in the new trend or not and also learn how to add on dressing styles.

I think it's also interesting to note how often we see advertisements on these blogs that are within the content, yes they are labeled as ads but they're still in the same stream as stories. Also, I've noticed that quite often many stories on blogs are overlapping information from the same press release that each received. With the increasing ubiquity of blogs I think it's ever more important that bloggers be interesting thoughtful people that are actually adding perspective in addition to delivering information.
ReplyDeleteyeah, I agree, perspectives are what makes you stand out and attract readership for your blog.
ReplyDeleteReally interested in checking out some of these blogs, thanks! I love following fashion blogs in my spare time, and I agree that the advertisements are directly related. Even Facebook has now began following the things you search and directing their ads towards your interests. I actually find that kind of advertising pretty creepy and wonder when I allowed Facebook to monitor my interests on that level!
ReplyDeleteOne of my jobs is to manage social media accounts for a boutique fashion design company. It is not as easy as people think to upload pictures/videos and to write about "fashionable" opinions. It needs a comprehensive and sometimes viral media strategy to attract audiences. Anyhow, social media do provide a more convenient and instant means for fashion icons to interactive with their audiences. One thing that worth noticing is that traditional media, such as magazines, fashion shows, TV shows, are still major platforms for audiences to receive fashion information.
